Terms & Conditions

Airtel Playstories

1. Duration & Participation

1.1 The Airtel Playstories Service (“Playstories” or the “SERVICE”) is a digital storytelling application brought to you by AIRTEL in partnership with Rembrandt Global Services (henceforth called the “ORGANIZER”), with content developed by Dentro da História.

1.2 Playstories offers a curated, ad-free library of interactive and personalized stories designed for children aged 3 to 8, promoting literacy, imagination and emotional development. Each story can be personalized with the child’s name, appearance and preferences. The SERVICE is delivered as a static web/HTML5 application accessed through a dedicated portal, and is also available via iOS and Android applications. This is an ongoing service, running for as long as it remains active on the AIRTEL network (SERVICE PERIOD), starting from the launch date.

2. Means of Participation

2.1 AIRTEL subscribers can join the SERVICE by sending the keyword “PLAYD” to short code 5830, at N150/day (inclusive of VAT), after a 1 (one) day free trial period.

2.2 Subscribers may alternatively subscribe via the Web Recruitment (WR) flow on the service portal, which redirects eligible users through the standard AIRTEL double opt-in subscription process.

2.3 At the discretion of the Organizer, fallback pricing of N100, N50, N30, N20, N10 and N5 per day (inclusive of VAT) will be applied for users whose charging fails due to insufficient airtime.

2.4 Access to the Playstories portal requires an active AIRTEL data subscription. Data charges apply separately from the SERVICE subscription fee.

2.5 Following successful subscription and charge, the registered user will receive an SMS containing a link to the portal. Login credentials (username/password) will be shared by the Organizer, or the user may be logged in automatically via a tokenized URL.

2.6 Participation in this SERVICE is subject to these rules, interpreted at the discretion of the Organizer. The Organizer reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time without prior notice. All promotional content or advertising material shall form part of these Terms and Conditions.

3. Eligibility

3.1 The SERVICE may only be subscribed to by residents of Nigeria who are subscribers of AIRTEL Nigeria and are 18 (eighteen) years of age or older. The PARTICIPANT (i.e. the subscribing account holder) is considered to be the SIM card owner or a user authorized by the owner. Employees, representatives and agents of the Organizer, AIRTEL, or any associated vendors are not eligible to participate.

3.2 The storytelling content made available through the SERVICE is designed for use by children aged 3 to 8 under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian. The SERVICE is not intended to be subscribed to or managed by a child; the PARTICIPANT subscribing to and paying for the SERVICE must be the adult account holder.

4. Cost & Subscription

4.1 Every SUBSCRIPTION successfully processed via short code 5830 is charged at N150/day, inclusive of VAT, following the first day free of charge. If a PARTICIPANT does not have sufficient credit on a given day, they will not be charged and will not have access to premium portal content for that day.

4.2 To unsubscribe, dial *305# from the registered line. PARTICIPANTS may also cancel via the cancellation call-to-action (CTA) available within the portal, which displays instructions on how to cancel and triggers the cancellation request on the user’s behalf.

4.3 Where a PARTICIPANT fails to be successfully charged for 90 (ninety) consecutive days, the subscription will be automatically cancelled.

4.4 The Organizer may cancel a subscription upon a clear expression of non-interest by a PARTICIPANT via SMS or the portal CTA.

5. Content, Personalization & Portal Access

5.1 Portal access is available to: (i) ACTIVE subscribers within the free trial period; (ii) ACTIVE subscribers who have been successfully charged within the current SERVICE renewal period; and (iii) cancelled subscribers who were successfully charged within the current renewal period, for the remainder of that period. Subscribers who are ACTIVE but are outside the trial period and have not been successfully charged, and subscribers who have cancelled or never subscribed, are not eligible to access portal content.

5.2 The SERVICE offers a curated, ad-free library of educational stories which may be personalized using details provided by the PARTICIPANT, including a child’s name, appearance and preferences, so that the child becomes the protagonist of their own story. Content is regularly updated and may be added, removed, or substituted by the Organizer at any time without prior notice.

5.3 The PARTICIPANT is responsible for the accuracy of any information submitted for personalization purposes and for ensuring that such information is provided voluntarily and appropriately by an adult on behalf of the child.

6. Parental Consent & Children’s Use

6.1 By subscribing to the SERVICE, the PARTICIPANT confirms that they are the parent, legal guardian, or otherwise have the authority to permit the relevant child to use the SERVICE, and that they consent to the child’s use of the storytelling content under their supervision.

6.2 The Organizer recommends that a parent or guardian supervises a child’s use of the SERVICE at all times. The Organizer is not responsible for a child’s use of the SERVICE outside of such supervision.

6.3 Any personal information relating to a child that is submitted for content personalization will be used solely for that purpose, in accordance with Section 11 (Personal Data Protection) below, and will not be used to advertise or market directly to the child.

7. Additional Capabilities

7.1 For information about the SERVICE, PARTICIPANTS may send “HELP” or “INFO” to 5830 to receive instructions on the SERVICE and details of other available commands.

7.2 To retrieve portal login credentials, PARTICIPANTS may send “PASSWORD” to 5830.

8. Abuse and Disqualification

8.1 PARTICIPANTS may not use machines, scripts, bots, or any other automated means to interact with the SERVICE, whether via SMS or the portal. Any suspected breach of this rule entitles the Organizer to suspend or disqualify the PARTICIPANT’s access to the SERVICE.

9. Organizer’s Responsibilities

9.1 The Organizer is not responsible for delays or failures in SMS delivery, portal access, or billing arising from technical issues outside its reasonable control. SMS logs and portal activity records held in the Organizer’s systems shall serve as proof of messages sent or received and of SERVICE usage.

10. Blacklisted Users

10.1 Users placed on the Do Not Disturb (DnD)/blacklist register will not receive SERVICE communications and will not be contacted for advertising or recruitment purposes. Where a blacklisted user attempts to participate in the SERVICE, they will receive a message informing them that they are not eligible to participate.

11. Personal Data Protection

11.1 All personal data collected, including any information submitted for the personalization of a child’s story, will be treated confidentially and in accordance with Nigerian data protection laws. It will not be shared unless legally required to do so or explicitly authorized by the PARTICIPANT.

11.2 The Organizer applies heightened care to information relating to children and will only use such information for the purpose of delivering personalized story content within the SERVICE.

12. Governing Law & Amendments

12.1 This SERVICE is governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. These Terms and Conditions remain in effect during the SERVICE PERIOD unless amended or suspended by the Organizer.
